Clinical Studies at Associated Neurologists, P.C.

Associated Neurologists, P.C. was established in 1971 as a private medical practice. The clinical staff includes 9 board-certified neurologists, 2 nurse practitioners, 1 physician assistant, 2 RN-certified research coordinators, 2 research assistants, 3 doctoral-level neuropsychologists, 1 infusion RN, and 2 registered EEG technologists. It is located in a smoke-free building in a mid-sized western Connecticut city, population 74,000. The 371-bed community hospital is less than 1 mile away and serves the needs of approximately 360,000 residents of western Connecticut and southeastern New York.

The newly renovated research area consists of 1,700 square feet of dedicated space including 3 standard examination rooms, a fourth larger room to accommodate the more disabled, basic laboratory facilities, a separate waiting area to allow for privacy and comfort when extended wait time is required, locked drug and CRF areas, monitor review room, and staff offices.

The mission of clinical research at Associated Neurologists is to offer an additional form of treatment to patients which may not otherwise be available. The research team strives to provide the highest quality of care for patients involved in clinical studies, treating each patient as an individual with unique concerns and needs. We protect the rights, welfare, and safety of all research subjects by following Good Clinical Practice Standards, upholding established FDA regulations for drug research at clinical sites, and ensuring that the data collected are of the highest quality and integrity. Confidentiality is further ensured by the location of a secured area for CRF and source documentation record retention. CPR-certified research staff, basic life support equipment in the research area, and proximity within 5 minutes to the local hospital's Emergency Department further ensure patient safety.

Research activities at the clinical center began over 10 years ago. To date, over 45 clinical trials, inpatient as well as outpatient, have been completed in the areas of Alzheimer's disease, attention deficit disorder, dementia, multiple sclerosis, migraines, stroke, epilepsy, peripheral neuropathy, restless legs, and Parkinson's disease.
